Switzerland to limit EV use during electricity shortage

We usually see news of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles being banned in favour of EVs, but this is a little bit different as Switzerland is reportedly considering limiting the use of electric vehicles in the event of electricity shortages.

While new regulations are still being drafted, it was specified that ‘the private use of electric cars is only permitted for absolutely necessary journeys’, according to Spiegel.de.

There isn’t a timeline yet on when it would be implemented and is only considered necessary when the most extreme power-saving measures are needed. In a bid to further reduce electricity consumption, the country may also look into lowering the speed limit on its roads.

For now, electricity conservation efforts will be focussed on private households with specific measures being proposed. For example, washing machines should not operate beyond 40 degrees Celcius while leaf blowers and patio heaters may not be operated.

2024 Acura Integra Type S confirmed, over 300 hp, 6MT

Acura has confirmed the development of the Integra Type S, and the high-performance variant of the five-door fastback (it has a hatch) is set to join the Integra lineup for the 2024 model year.

Along with these images of the Integra Type S wrapped in camouflage, Honda’s premium brand says that the car will have “ultimate street performance and driver engagement” and it will be powered by a 2.0 litre VTEC turbocharged engine producing “over 300 horsepower”. Only a six-speed manual transmission will be offered, and the Type S will have a limited slip differential.

The 2.0L turbo should be the same engine serving in the latest FL5 Honda Civic Type R. US-spec CTRs put out 320 PS and 420 Nm of torque, which is 9 PS/20 Nm up from the US-spec FK8 CTR. The FL5’s KC20C1 develops 330 PS/420 Nm in Japan.

It’s the same engine as the one

BMW iX5 Hydrogen exists for “geopolitical resilience”

Although car manufacturers have not gone all in on hydrogen fuel cell technology the way that they have with battery electric cars, now and then we get news of a new hydrogen car being developed. This is the latest one from BMW, a hydrogen fuel cell version of the BMW X5 that it is calling the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

Interesting to see the X5 decked out in zero emissions form because a battery EV BMW iX5 does not exist, instead the electric SUV model positioned above the iX3 is the BMW iX. The iX5 Hydrogen gets swathes of blue around its body, and notably the kidney grille still looks like a grille instead of being blanked out like on the i4 and iX3.

The fuel cell system is in the engine bay. Two hydrogen tanks are stored in the centre tunnel and under the rear seat. A small battery along
